As long as you are an independent Graduate Student attending school at least half-time, you
qualify to borrow under the PLUS program yourself. You must complete and submit a PLUS Loan application. These
applications are available from your school, lender, or your state guaranty agency. After the school completes its
portion of the application, information will be sent to a lender for evaluation.
A credit check is required. If you do not qualify based on your credit, you may still be able to receive a loan if
someone, such as a relative or friend who is creditworthy, agrees to co-sign the loan. A co-signer promises to repay the
loan if you fail to do so. You might also qualify for a loan if you can demonstrate that extenuating circumstances
exist. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov) in order to determine if you meet other general eligibility requirements
for federal student financial aid.
When picking up an application from the school, be sure to use SLFC's lender number, 833405.
