How do my parents get a PLUS loan?

The parent(s) must complete and submit a PLUS Loan application. These applications are available from your school, lender, or your state guaranty agency. After the school completes its portion of the application, information will be sent to the lender for evaluation. If you pick up an application from the school, be sure to use SLFC's lender number, 833405.

Credit approval is required to receive a PLUS loan. If your parent(s) do not qualify, they may still be able to receive a loan if someone, such as a relative or friend with approved credit, agrees to co-sign the loan. A co-signer promises to repay the loan if your parent(s) fail to do so. Parent(s) may also qualify for a loan if they can demonstrate that extenuating circumstances exist.
