8th & 9th Grade

It's never too early to begin your preparations for college. You can begin now by laying some of the groundwork. Below is a list of items to focus on during your 8th and 9th grade school years.

  • Both you and your parents should begin or continue saving for your college education. Talk with your parents about options such as 529 Plans.
  • Begin exploring your career possibilities.
  • Lay the groundwork for academic scholarships by striving to earn good grades. Good grades also increase your chances of being accepted by the college of your choice.
  • Get a summer job to help build savings for college.
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities.

SLFC also provides tools that can help select a career, search for a college, calculators to assist with determining the cost of attending the college and ways to finance your education. Go to SLFC's Toolkit for assistance.
